Veronica Bac and
Thalia D'Elia led the RMU women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Union in the 2024-25 season opener. The win puts the Colonials at a 1-0 record to start the season.
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- RMU struck quickly, scoring their first goal just five minutes into the game. Thalia D'Elia fired a shot into the net from the slot off a faceoff play. Center Veronica Bac won the draw, and Janelle Evans set up D'Elia for the goal.
- Despite being outshot 9-7 in the first period, RMU matched Union in faceoff wins, with each team winning eight.
- The Colonials successfully killed off their first penalty of the season, denying Union's single power-play opportunity.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Union tied the game in the second period when Maren Friday scored on the power play.
- Both teams traded power-play chances, with Union earning three and RMU two in the period.
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- RMU regained the lead early in the third, as Veronica Bac scored her first goal as a Colonial by tipping in a shot from Alaina Giampietro. D'Elia added another assist.
- Bac sealed the game with a second goal, scoring on the power play with just 0.1 seconds remaining. D'Elia and Jersey Phillips assisted on the play.

Union registered 33 shots on goal while RMU managed 26. The Colonials went 2-6 on the power play, and Union finished 1-4. RMU blocked 30 shots, with sophomore goaltender
Maggie Hatch making 32 saves. Forwards

THREE FOR VB AND TD
Veronica Bac and
Thalia D'Elia both recorded three points, contributing to all of RMU's goals. This marked Bac's second career three-point game and D'Elia's first. Bac now has 21 career points, while D'Elia has 15.
