WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross capitalized in the end, scoring three goals in the final minute to secure a 4-1 victory over RMU in game one of their Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) series. The Colonials drop to 8-10-2 overall and 5-6-1 in conference play.
FIRST PERIOD
- The opening 20 minutes saw a defensive battle as neither team found the back of the net. RMU held the edge in shots, outshooting Holy Cross 11-7.
SECOND PERIOD
- Holy Cross broke the deadlock late in the second period, scoring with five minutes left to take a 1-0 lead.
- RMU nearly tied the game in the closing moments as Patrick Johnson's shot rang off the pipe.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Colonials found the equalizer with four minutes remaining in regulation. Defenseman Luke van Why fired a shot past the Crusaders' goaltender, assisted by Dominic Elliott and Trent Wilson.
- However, Holy Cross responded with an offensive surge in the final minute of the game. The Crusaders netted three goals in a 42-second span, including one on an empty net, to seal the 4-1 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Holy Cross held a slight advantage in shots, 27-24, while RMU won 31 of 61 faceoffs.
- Trent Wilson led the team with five shots on goal, and Cameron Garvey dominated the faceoff circle with 12 wins.
- Defensively, the Colonials blocked 16 shots, with J.R. Ashmead recording a career-high five blocks.
- Goaltender Dylan Meilun made 23 saves in the contest.
