MacKinnon’s OT Goal Secures RMU Two of Three Points Over RIT

MacKinnon produces one goal and one assist

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Jessica MacKinnon's overtime winner delivered the RMU women's hockey team two of three possible points Friday night, as the Colonials opened Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play with a 2-1 victory over RIT. With the win, RMU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

FIRST PERIOD
After successfully killing off an early penalty midway through the first period, the Colonials were awarded a power play of their own and capitalized.

Off a clean offensive zone faceoff win, Emma Goding ripped a wrist shot from the right side for her first goal of the season. Jessica MacKinnon and Linnea Misner were credited with assists on the play.

Despite the lead, RIT carried the shot advantage through the opening 20 minutes, outshooting RMU 13-7.

SECOND PERIOD
The middle frame remained scoreless, though both teams generated quality chances. RMU earned two power plays and RIT one, but neither side converted.

The Colonials held a narrow 13-12 edge in shots during the period.

THIRD PERIOD
Early in the third, RIT finally broke through on its third power play opportunity. Riley Gramlich's point shot found its way through traffic to even the score at 1-1.

Later in the frame, the Colonials were awarded a five-minute power play after a major penalty against the Tigers. RMU peppered nine shots during the extended advantage but couldn't find the go-ahead goal, sending the contest to overtime.

OVERTIME
The Colonials controlled possession from the opening faceoff of the extra frame, and it didn't take long to end it.

After winning the draw herself, MacKinnon took a return feed from Rowyn Ringor and buried a wrist shot for her second goal of the season, sealing the overtime victory and an early two-point start to AHA play.
