ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The RMU men's hockey team wrapped up its opening weekend of the 2025-26 season, falling 10-2 to No. 3/4 Michigan on Friday night at Yost Ice Arena. The Colonials drop to 0-2-0 to begin the campaign.
FIRST PERIOD
The Colonials got off to a fast start, striking first less than three minutes into the contest.
Coming through the neutral zone,
Bruce McDonald pulled back and sent a crisp pass across to
Ryan Taylor on the left side. Taylor blasted home a one-timer for his first goal of the season, giving RMU an early 1-0 advantage.
Michigan answered late in the period, capitalizing twice in the final two minutes — once on the power play and shorthanded — to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
Midway through the middle frame, the Wolverines extended their advantage to 3-1 after converting quickly off a faceoff win in the offensive zone.
RMU responded minutes later on the power play.
George Krotiris's relentless forecheck forced a turnover deep in the Michigan zone, allowing Taylor to find
Dominic Elliott, who set up
Jackson Reineke in front. Reineke buried it to bring the Colonials back within one at 3-2.
Michigan regained momentum late in the period, scoring three times over the final six minutes — including another power-play tally — to take a 6-2 lead into the break.
THIRD PERIOD
The Wolverines continued to roll in the final frame, adding four more goals to secure a 10-2 win and complete the series sweep.
