NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The RMU women's hockey team was held off the scoreboard in the series finale at Yale, falling 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials now sit at 3-5-0 overall to start the 2025-26 campaign.
FIRST PERIOD
Eight minutes into the opening frame, Yale struck first on a goal from Stephanie Stainton to take a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later, the Bulldogs doubled their advantage after a fortuitous bounce off an RMU defenseman found its way into the net. Yale carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
The score held steady for most of the middle frame until Yale capitalized on a power play with just over three minutes remaining to make it 3-0.
RMU generated pressure late in the period, firing six shot attempts in the final minute, but couldn't break through.
THIRD PERIOD
The Colonials opened the third with urgency, peppering seven shot attempts early, but the Yale defense held firm.
The Bulldogs added an insurance goal in the final seconds to seal the 4-0 decision.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Yale outshot RMU 40-24. Emma Goding led the Colonials with four shots on goal.
- Jessica MacKinnon won a team-high eight faceoffs, while Catriona Crarer went 6-for-10 (60%).
- Defensively, Shayne Desjardins led the way with five blocked shots.
- Yale finished 1-for-2 on the power play, while RMU went 0-for-2.
- Goaltender Maggie Hatch recorded 36 saves in the effort.
UP NEXT
RMU returns to conference play next weekend, visiting new AHA opponent Delaware for the first time. The series opener is set for Friday, October 24 at 6:00 PM, followed by the finale on Saturday, October 25 at 2:00 PM.
