BEMIDJI, Minn. – The RMU women's hockey team was held off the scoresheet for the first time this year, falling 3-0 in their series opener at Bemidji State on Friday night. The loss moves the Colonials to 2-1 overall in the 2025-26 season.
FIRST PERIOD
Bemidji State capitalized early, breaking through seven minutes into the contest when Hailey Armstrong opened the scoring. Just over five minutes later, Morgan Smith doubled their advantage, giving the hosts a 2-0 cushion after one.
The Colonials struggled to generate possession in the offensive zone during the opening frame, managing just one shot on goal while being outshot 12-1 overall.
SECOND PERIOD
The middle frame saw no scoring, though RMU started to find their footing. The Colonials put nine shots on target in the period, including three during their lone power play opportunity.
Hatch finished the period with 10 saves as RMU continued to search for momentum.
THIRD PERIOD
Bemidji State's special teams delivered the dagger at 7:23 of the third when Isa Goettl converted on the Beavers' second power play of the evening, stretching the margin to 3-0.
RMU pressed late, firing three shots in the final two minutes, but couldn't break through.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bemidji State outshot RMU, 31-12. Morgan Giannone paced the Colonials with four shots.
- RMU held a slight edge in the faceoff circle, winning 29 of 54 draws (53.7%). Jessica MacKinnon was dominant at the dot, going 15-for-21 (71.4%).
- On the defensive end, Calli Arnold, Kaitlyn Schooley, and Shayne Desjardins each blocked a pair of shots.
- Between the pipes, Hatch stopped 28 of 31 attempts.
