MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A late RIT power-play tally proved to be the difference Friday night, as the Colonials fell 2-1 at Clearview Arena. RMU moves to 2-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
RIT struck quickly, opening the scoring just 1:25 into the contest when Ben Roger's shot navigated through traffic.
The Tigers generated the bulk of early pressure, earning two power plays to RMU's one, but neither side converted. RIT carried a 13-7 shots advantage into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
The Tigers continued to tilt the ice in their favor, outshooting RMU 15-6 in the middle frame.
Despite extended defensive-zone time, the Colonials generated a spark from their top line, as
George Krotiris pushed the pace and created multiple chances. RMU, however, still trailed 1-0 after 40 minutes.
THIRD PERIOD
Just as RIT capitalized on an early opportunity in the first, the Colonials answered with one of their own in the third. An RIT defender fanned on a shot at the blue line, springing
Dario Beljo the other way. He fed
Tanner Klimpke, who finished the breakaway on his backhand to even the score at 1-1.
RMU nearly took the lead minutes later when
Michael Felsing ripped a shot off the post. But with four minutes remaining, an RMU penalty opened the door for the Tigers. RIT's Zach Wigle converted on the ensuing man advantage to retake the lead.
The Colonials received a late power play of their own but couldn't find the equalizer, falling 2-1.
