BOSTON – RMU men's hockey goaltender
Charlie Schenkel has been named the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Rookie of the Week, earning the first weekly honor of his collegiate career after a standout performance against Mercyhurst.
The freshman netminder played a crucial role in helping RMU secure five of six points in the weekend series, anchoring the Colonials in net. Schenkel finished the series leading all AHA goaltenders this past week with a 0.97 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage, turning aside 39 shots across the two games.
His weekend also included two key saves in the shootout during the series finale, preserving the extra conference point for the Colonials.
Through his first collegiate season, the Toronto, Ontario native has collected three wins and a .896 save percentage.
Schenkel's recognition marks RMU's second weekly conference honor this year, joining forward
Tanner Klimpke, who was previously named AHA Forward of the Week.
RMU now shifts its focus westward, traveling to Air Force for a two-game series in Colorado. Game one is scheduled for Friday, December 5 at 9:00 PM ET, with the finale set for Saturday, December 6 at 6:00 PM ET.
