MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's hockey alum
Mya Neugent has officially signed a professional contract with Aisulu Almaty, a team based in Kazakhstan that competes in the European Women's Hockey League (EWHL). The move sees Neugent joining the reigning league champions, as Aisulu Almaty claimed the EWHL title in the recently concluded 2024-25 season.
"I'm very excited to travel overseas to a new country and look forward to all the new experiences that will come in the following year," said Neugent, expressing her enthusiasm for the journey ahead. "I can't wait to grow as an athlete both on and off the ice! I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love and take this next step with Aisulu Almaty!"
Neugent played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the RMU women's hockey program. She joined the team in the spring of 2023, just ahead of its highly anticipated return to the ice for the 2023-24 season. During her time with the Colonials, Neugent proved to be a versatile and valuable asset, playing in 70 games primarily on the wing. Her offensive contributions were significant, as she notched 14 goals, 18 assists, and totaled 32 points.
"Mya's signing with Aisulu Almaty is a testament to her dedication, talent, and the hard work she put in, especially being part of our program's return," said RMU Women's Hockey Head Coach
Logan Bittle. "She's a fantastic player who consistently pushed herself and her teammates. To see her take this step to play for a championship-winning team in Europe is incredibly rewarding."
Since its inception in 2005, the RMU women's hockey program has proudly developed an impressive legacy of preparing student-athletes for the next level. Neugent's signing adds to this distinguished list, bringing the total to over 30 former Colonials who have gone on to play professionally around the globe.
