MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU Volleyball team went a perfect 2-0 this weekend at the Four Twelve Project Volleyball Invitational after a 3-0 sweep of Buffalo on Saturday evening at the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials won with set scores of 25-18, 25-22, and a hard-fought 31-29. With the win, RMU improves to 4-7 on the season, while Buffalo drops to 3-6.
Robert Morris came out strong in the first set, taking it with a comfortable 25-18 margin. The second set was a closer affair, but the Colonials held on for a 25-22 win. The third set proved to be a battle, with 13 ties and six lead change. In a thrilling conclusion, RMU emerged victorious after a
Layla Todd kill gave RMU a 31-29 win to complete the sweep.
The Colonials' offense was firing on all cylinders, led by
Jocelyn Jourdan who tallied 16 kills in the match, while
Tia Schultz added seven kills.
Setter
Kaitlyn Brown orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and added nine digs. Libero
Jasmine Purakal anchored the back line, leading the team with 14 digs.
For the weekend, Purakal was named MVP after finishing the weekend with 32 digs (4.0/set) and nine assists. Jourdan was named to the All-Tournament team. She has 29 kills (3.6/set) with 14 digs.
Up next, RMU begins HL play at Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27. The Colonials stay on the road for a midweek matchup at Youngstown State on Tuesday, September 30 before their conference home opener on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5 against Oakland.
