ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A three-goal third period lifted RIT past RMU, 4-1, Friday night at the Gene Polisseni Center. With the setback, the Colonials move to 4-13-2 overall and 4-6-1 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
RIT struck early, opening the scoring just 97 seconds into the contest as Ben Roger finished an even-strength chance to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Despite the early deficit, RMU generated consistent pressure, outshooting RIT 13-10 through the opening 20 minutes but was unable to find the equalizer before the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
Midway through the period, coincidental minor penalties to both teams led to 4-on-4 action, creating additional space on the ice.
RMU capitalized on the opportunity as
Tanner Klimpke found room from distance and snapped a wrist shot past the RIT goaltender to knot the game at 1-1.
Cameron Garvey and
Dominic Elliott each recorded assists on the play.
RIT held a slight 10-8 shot advantage in the period, but the teams headed into the third period deadlocked.
THIRD PERIOD
The Tigers regained the lead four minutes into the final frame when Camden Bajzer scored the go-ahead goal.
RIT continued to apply pressure, and seven minutes later Zach Wigle doubled the advantage to make it 3-1. Although RMU outshot the Tigers 13-11 in the period, the Colonials were unable to close the gap. An empty-net goal late sealed the 4-1 victory for the home side.
