MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU alum JP Mbuthia has signed a professional contract with FC Elva of the Esiliiga, the second division of Estonian football.
 
Mbuthia played a key role in one of the most successful seasons in program history, helping lead RMU to its first Horizon League Championship in 2024. Following that campaign, he earned United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Third Team honors, was named to the Horizon League All-League Second Team and All-Academic Team, and garnered College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition. He was also named Horizon League Player of the Week once during the season.
 
In 2024, Mbuthia appeared in all 19 matches under head coach Jonathan Potter, making 14 starts while logging over 1,000 minutes. He finished the season with five goals and one assist.
 
As a junior in 2023, Mbuthia played in all 16 games, earning 13 starts. He led the Colonials with four goals and ranked tied for second on the team with nine points.
 
Over the course of his collegiate career, Mbuthia appeared in 51 matches with 37 starts, totaling 17 goals and four assists.
 
Mbuthia graduated from RMU with a degree in public relations and advertising. Prior to his time in Moon Township, he spent two seasons at UNC Charlotte before concluding his collegiate career at UMass.
