MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team will start the week at home, welcoming Mercyhurst to the North Athletic Complex on Monday, September 14 at 4:00 PM. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-1-1, 1-0 #HLMSOC) is coming off a dominant 5-2 victory at Detroit Mercy in its first Horizon League contest of the season. In the win,
John Krug recorded his first career goal and added two assists. Junior forward
Anelson Azard scored a brace, while
Storm Johansen dished out two assists and
Riley Cotton contributed one goal and one assist.
Nicholas Samways,
Jonah Geike and
Oscar Bech each registered an assist, while
Filip Jeppesen scored his first goal as a Colonial, which stood as the game-winner.
Through six games, Azard and
Joaquin Fazal are tied for the team lead with 11 shots apiece. Four different Colonials have recorded a game-winning goal this season.
Junior defender
Abdul Kamara leads the team with 512 minutes played. In net, senior goalkeeper and captain
Josh Lane has started all six games, earning four wins and recording seven saves.
ACROSS THE HORIZON
RMU currently owns the highest winning percentage in the Horizon League at .750. Azard is tied for first in the league with four goals, while Krug ranks third with three assists. Lane ranks second in the conference with a 0.86 goals-against average.
ALL-TIME VS. MERCYHURST
Monday's contest will mark just the third all-time meeting between RMU and Mercyhurst.
The Lakers earned a 1-0 victory in 2024, while the Colonials and Lakers played to a scoreless draw last season in Erie, Pa. Lane made three saves to record the clean sheet in that contest.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Mercyhurst (2-2-2) opened the season with back-to-back losses but has since put together a four-game unbeaten streak. Most recently, the Lakers played Niagara to a 0-0 draw before earning a 3-1 victory over Canisius.
Senior midfielder Alvar Silva leads Mercyhurst with four goals and one assist. Junior defender Jacob Anderson has logged a team-high 540 minutes and has recorded one assist. Senior goalkeeper Jaime Tedaldi has started all six games for the Lakers, recording one clean sheet and making 22 saves.
Last season, Mercyhurst finished 3-10-4 overall and went 3-5-1 in NEC play. The Lakers earned wins over Howard, Chicago State and Central Connecticut State.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Mercyhurst has already faced two Horizon League opponents this season in Cleveland State and Detroit Mercy. The Lakers defeated Cleveland State, 2-0, and played Detroit Mercy to a 2-2 draw.
Mercyhurst also faced Drexel earlier this season, falling to the Dragons, 2-0, and Canisius, who they beat 3-1.
