Garnering the Giant Eagle RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 11, 2017, is redshirt senior forward Brittany Howard of the ice hockey team. A four-time winner of the award last season, Howard didn’t waste any time picking up her first in 2017-18, scoring four goals and registering two assists for six points in a sweep of Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn., to open the year. In a 2-1 victory in RMU’s season opener, Howard registered the game-winning goal just 40 seconds into overtime. The next night, Howard registered a hat trick and two helpers in a 6-2 win over the Mavericks. The six-point weekend allowed Howard, a native of St. Thomas, Ontario, to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 140 points. For her efforts, Howard was tabbed the College Hockey America (CHA) Player of the Week (10/9/17).
