Named the Chick-Fil-A Robinson RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17, 2021, is senior guard Jon Williams of the basketball team. In a home split last weekend with Oakland at the UPMC Events Center, Williams, a native of Akron, Ohio, averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 45 percent (9-for-20) from the field, including 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from beyond the arc. He also knocked down five of his six attempts (83.3%) at the free-throw line. In an 88-82 double overtime win over the Golden Grizzlies to open the two-game set, Williams scored 10 points, dished out six assists and registered two steals. The next night against Oakland, Williams paced RMU with a career-high 22 points while again handing out six assists. He shot 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and in the process became the 11th student-athlete in program history to knock down at least 200 three-point field goals. On the 2020-21 season, Williams, an organizational leadership major, is averaging 10.6 points and is the NCAA leader in assist-to-turnover ratio at 5.20.
