Robert Morris Holds Off CCSU for 2-1 Victory

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's soccer team evened their Northeast Conference record with a 2-1 victory over Central Connecticut State at North Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials, now 1-1 in conference play and 5-6-0 overall, got goals from a pair of freshmen ? Daneen Stevenato (North York, Ontario / Newtonbrook) and Chelsea Miazgowicz (Crescent, Pa. / Moon) ? to move their home record to 3-1-0 this season.

The Colonials fell behind in the first half when Kari Mancini scored off the near post in the 30th minute. Mancini found herself all alone on RMU keeper Jessica Onufer (Butler, Pa. / Butler) after she was led to goal on a pass by Jen Scanzano.

The Blue Devils lead, however, would be short lived. The Colonials tied the game just over 11 minutes later on Stevenato's third goal of the year. Junior Kathryn Kirkpatrick (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) carried the ball into the box out of the right corner and found Stevenato 10-yards from goal inside the box. The rookie's right-foot shot hit the inside of the left post and went in for the tying goal in the 41st minute.

Just 76 seconds later, Miazgowicz put RMU ahead to stay when she converted on a penalty kick for her first career goal. Miazgowicz buried her right-footed shot in the upper left corner.

Onufer made the lead hold, making four of her five saves in the game during the second half. Caity Casey made seven saves for Central Connecticut (3-6-1, 1-0-1 NEC), all coming the final 45 minutes.

The Colonials finish their four-game homestand with Saint Francis (Pa.) next Sunday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m.
