RMU Drops 3-1 Decision to Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team will have their work cut out for them to earn a spot on the 2006 Northeast Conference playoffs following a 3-1 loss at Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon. The Colonials, now 7-6-4 and 2-2-3 in the NEC, entered the match in the fourth and final playoff spot, but will now have to see how today's other conference games shake out.

The Colonials looked to control early play when Ryan Zabinski (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) settled a cross from junior Jason Pelletier (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) and buried it in the sixth minute.

Sacred Heart tied the game in the 30th minute on a Brice Victor header following a cross from Raphael Renzende. The host Pioneers registered 19 shots and six corners to the Colonials six shots and one corner in the first half.

Jason Tessitore gave Sacred Heart the lead in the 60th minute as he finished off a loose ball in front of the RMU net. He tallied his second of the game in the 67th minute after taking a long pass from Ricarti Mendes.

Robert Morris junior goalkeeper Matt Felice (Missisaugua, Ontario / Phillip Pocock) had nine saves in the game while Matthew Jones had three for the win.

The Colonials entertain Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State in the final two regular season games next Friday and Sunday, October 27 and 29.
