Field Hockey Drops Season Finale to Fairfield 2-1

Box Score The Robert Morris University field hockey team fell to Fairfield 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon as they concluded their 2006 campaign at Joe Walton Stadium.

Sophomore Sarah Schrott (Quarryville, Pa. / Lancaster Christian) tallied the score for the Colonials in the second period. Schrott finished the season with six goals and four assists.

In the first period, it seemed that both teams were content on playing the possession game. The Colonials defense played exceptionally well shutting down the Stags on their seven shots, with only one on goal. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie going into the second period.

Fairfield's Chelsea Hicks finally figured out the Colonial defense 17 minutes into the second period on a scrum in front of the cage giving the stags a 1-0 advantage.

Robert Morris wouldn't back down that easily with 5:04 remaining on the clock. Schrott took a quick pass in front of the cage from teammate Junior Andrea Tasker (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) to beat the Stags goaltender high-left for the 1-1 tie.

It was a physical five minutes of play to the end but the 1-1 tie would hold-up taking the game to a sudden-death overtime finale.

Fairfield's Emily Janus took matters into her own hands 1:33 into the extra time with an unassisted goal ending the game.

Junior Kate Dunlap (Centerport, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) made nine saves in the game.

The Colonials finished up their season with a record of 3-14 overall and a 1-7 mark in Northeast Conference play.
