RMU Drops Conference Home Opener to Sacred Heart

Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University field hockey team opened its home portion of the Northeast Conference schedule Sunday afternoon with a, 6-1, loss to Sacred Heart (11-3, 4-1 NEC). The loss dropped the the Colonials to, 2-9 / 0-3 NEC, on the season.

Sacred Heart opened the scoring 5:23 into the second-half when Carisa Eye scored off of a penalty corner. Colleen Carney and Sarah Yeaton were credited with the assists. Sophomore forward Sarah Schrott (Quarryville, Pa. / Lancaster Christian) answered back 2:00 later to tie the game. Junior forward Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemia Manor) and junior defender Andrea Tasker (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) both tallied assists on the goal.

After a Carney gave Sacred Heart the lead back for good, at the 43:17 mark, Eye scored three goals in 2:19 to give her four goals on the day, making the score 5-1. Brittany Rosselle tallied one last goal for the Pioneers with 13:45 remaining in the game.

Junior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap (Centerport, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) stopped 8-of-14 shots, while Whitney Mills stopped 5-of-6 shots faced.

For the game, the Pioneers held the advantage in shots (21-8) and penalty corners (11-4).

The Colonials continue NEC play, when they hit the road for a two game road trip, stopping first at Lawrenceville, N.J for a 4:00 p.m. start against Rider. RMU then travels to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Monmouth at Noon.
