Pittsburgh, Pa. / Island Sports Center - The Robert Morris University men's hockey team scored twice in the period to earn a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville in College Hockey America action at the RMU Island Sports Center Friday night. Trailing 3-2 headed into the final frame, the Colonials (4-5-0, 3-2-0 CHA) got goals from sophomore Chris Margott (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Bay State Breakers) and junior David Boguslawski (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm) to upend the Chargers (2-8-1, 1-5-0 CHA) for just the second time in nine meetings.
Behind by a goal in the third period, the Colonials made the most of four shots on goal in the final stanza. Margott tied the game with his fourth marker of the season, beating UAH netminder Jordan Erickson with a wrist shot through the five hole. Hopfe and Berkstresser earned the assists on the goal that came at 10:03.
Just 2:10 later, Robert Morris found the gamewinner. Junior defenseman Rob Cowan (Calgary, Alberta / Olds Grizzlys) directed a shot on net form the left boards. The shot was tipped across the crease by junior Jake Sparks (Evergreen, Colo. / Central Texas Blackhawks) to Boguslawski who was waiting on the doorstep. Boguslawski easily redirected the puck into the open net with 7:47 left to play.
Colonials junior goaltender Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) came up big in the third period making 15 of his 38 saves in the game during the last 20 minutes. Erickson finished with 18 saves in the game while allowing two goals on just four third period shots.
Both teams capitalized on their power play opportunities in the first period which each scoring a five-on-three goal. RMU sophomore defenseman Jeff Gilbert (Barrie, Ontario / Aurora Tigers) opened the scoring when he ripped a slapshot from the top of the right circle over Erickson's left shoulder 5:44 in on the game's first power play. Senior Doug Conley (East Amherst, N.Y. / Tri-City Storm) and Sparks earned assists after cycling the puck along the blueline to Gilbert.
Huntsville evened the contest at 9:12 as Kevin Galerno buried a rebound on the doorstep after a wraparound attempt by Steve Canter. Dominik Rozman also had an assist on the goal.
A 5-on-3 power play by RMU gave them a 2-1 lead at 11:17. An similar setup to the Colonials first goal, Conley was on the end of the play, his slapshot beating Erickson to the same spot. Sparks and Boguslawski were credited with the assists.
The Chargers tied the score before the end of the stanza with their own 5-on-3 goal with 3:46 left in the first period. Scott Kalinchuk ripped a slapshot shortside past Boucher with Shaun Arvai and Grant Selinger earning the assists..
Huntsville continued with the hot power play in the second period as the got their second extra-man marker of the game. Another rebound proved to be a problem for RMU, this time with Selinger jumping on a lose puck coming off an Arvai slapshot, his second assist of the contest. David Nimmo also earned a helper on the marker at 6:57 of the middle frame.
Each team had two power play goals, Robert Morris earning seven chances and Huntsville getting six opportunities.
These two teams meet again tomorrow, Saturday, November 18, at 7:35 p.m. at the RMU Island Sports Center.
