Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team hosted Pitt in a non-conference match Tuesday night at the Charles L. Sewall Center, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Panthers by the scores of 30-20, 30-20 and 30-28. The defeat drops the Colonials to 5-6 overall on the 2006 campaign, while Pittsburgh improved to 10-2.
The Panthers posted an attack percentage of .339 on the game in taking the victory and were led by freshman outside hitter Megan Dooley, who finished with 16 kills against four errors in 23 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .522. Leading the way for Robert Morris was junior outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key), who posted 11 kills and an attack percentage of .171.
Adding 10 kills and seven digs for Robert Morris was junior outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian), while junior setter Tawyna Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) added 28 assists. Pacing the Colonial defense was sophomore libero Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris), who finished with 13 digs. Michelle Rossi of Pitt took home match honors for digs with 17.
Robert Morris is next in action Saturday, Sept. 16, when it travels to Cleveland State for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Vikings before returning home to host Morgan State at the Sewall Center for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match Sunday, Sept. 17.
