Robert Morris University field hockey team defeated Lindenwood Saturday afternoon, 4-1. The victory improves the Colonials record to 2-5 on the season, while the loss drops Lindenwood to 1-1 on the season.
Sophomore forward Sarah Schrott (Quarryville, Pa. / Lancaster Christian) opened the scoring for the Colonials 16:31 into the first half. Sophomore forward Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette) scored just under 11:00 later to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead.
The Colonials never trailed in the game, the only goal that Lindenwood scored came 31:05 into the first half. Sarah Pederson scored off a pass from Gaby Cruz, making the score 2-1.
Sophomore defensemen Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley) scored 3:06 into the second half giving RMU a two-goal lead. Junior forward Marisa Zizzi (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisie) added an insurance goal with just under 16:30 remaining in the game, junior forward Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemia Manor) recorded the assist.
Junior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap (Centerport, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) recorded her first win on the season. Dunlap stopped 8-of-9 shots she faced.
For the game, RMU out shot Lindenwood 24-11 and held an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Colonials open Northeast Conference action when they travel to Lock Haven on October 1. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
