Moon Township, Pa. - Jake Sparks (Evergreen, Colo. / Central Texas Blackhawks), a junior forward on the Robert Morris University men's hockey team, was named the College Hockey America Offensive Player of the Week following a four-point performance in a two-game series against Merrimack. Sparks tallied a goal and had three assists as the Colonials skated to a 2-2 tie and a 3-0 shutout victory over the Warriors last Friday and Saturday.
Sparks had a hand in every goal during Saturday's 3-0 shutout of the Warriors. He set up senior Aaron Clarke's (Peterborough, Ontario / Niagara University) game-winning power-play goal in the second period and had the first assist on David Boguslawski's (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm) goal later in the middle stanza. Sparks capped the scoring with his third goal of the year, a power-play marker, at 1:18 of the third period. In Friday night's game, he tallied an assist to put the Colonials ahead, 2-1, in a game that ended in a 2-2 tie.
Sparks is fourth on the squad with 10 points this season on three goals and seven assists. He has scored at least one point in five of the team's last six games.
Robert Morris returns to the ice Friday, January 5, when they take on third-ranked Notre Dame in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase at Mellon Arena. Game time is slated for 8:05 p.m.
