Box Score

Bemidji, Minn. ? The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team had their four-game winning streak snapped as the Bemidji State Beavers held on to preserve a 3-2 victory at the John S. Glas Field House Saturday night.

The Colonials (5-7-1), who were previously unbeaten in the month of November, fell just shy of tying the game late in the third period, as the team came back from a 3-0 deficit with two power-play goals in the final six-minutes of play.

After a scoreless first period, Bemidji State jumped out to a 3-0 advantage with a goal early in the second period and two in the beginning of the third.

It wasn't until late in the final period when RMU made a run at the Beavers. Freshman Sara O'Malley (Guelph, Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) got the Colonials on the board as she converted on the extra-man advantage with her eighth goal of the season at 14:03. Assists were dealt to sophomore Jacki Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Burlington Barracudas) and freshman Whitney Pappas (Evergreen, Co. / Belle Tire).

The Colonials crept within one with less than three minutes to play. Junior Kristen Miles (London, Ontario / London Devillettes) tallied her second goal of the season as she buried the puck past Bemidji State net-minder Emily Brookshaw with 2:12 showing on the scoreboard. Miles was set up on the play by teammates freshman Kylie Rossler (Regina, Saskatchewan / Regina Rebels) and junior Megan Picinic (Cliffside Park, N.J. / Princeton Tigerlillies).

Down by one, the Colonials pulled junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) in favor of the extra attacker, trying to draw even. Bemidji State stood tall in the final minute as their defense secured the victory, limiting Robert Morris to only one blocked shot.

McLaughlin was dealt her seventh loss of the season, finishing the game with 23 saves, while her counterpart, Brookshaw, made 24 saves.

Both teams were tied in shots at 26. On power-plays, Robert Morris converted, 2-10, while Bemidji State was, 1-3.

Both teams square off again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17, in game two of the series at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids, Minn. Game time is scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
