Box Score Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team fell to Niagara University, 2-1, at the RMU Island Sports Center Saturday afternoon. This was the first time the Purple Eagles have ever swept a two-game series against the Colonials (11-19-2, 1-9-0 CHA).
Unlike yesterday's game, Robert Morris couldn't find the fire power to counter Niagara's offensive attack. The Purple Eagles held the Colonials scoreless for over 59 minutes of the hockey game.
Niagara built up a 2-0 lead over the course of the game, scoring late in the first period and early in the third period. Shannon Moulson and Melanie Mills picked up the two goals, scoring off the rebound in front of the net.
Robert Morris though, made a late charge in the third period, pulling their goalie from net for the extra-attacker with over a minute to play in the game.
Sophomore Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Syracuse Stars) brought the Colonials within one, finding the biscuit within a scrum of Colonial and Purple Eagle players in front of the goal to score her ninth goal of the season at the 44 second mark.
The Colonials were out-shot in the game 33-25, and were held 0-5 on the power-play.
Sophomore Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) played in goal for the second straight day, making 31 saves on the afternoon.
Robert Morris wraps up their regular season next weekend as the team travels to Wayne State in Detroit, Mich. for a two-game series on February 23 / 24, both games are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
