Women's Ice Hockey Concludes Regular Season With Loss To Wayne State, 3-1

Box Score Detroit, Mich. - For the second time this season, the Wayne State Warriors completed the series sweep of the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey, defeating the Colonials, 3-1, at the Michigan Coliseum this afternoon. With the win, Wayne State sweeps the season series, 4-0, as well as holding an 8-0 lifetime record against RMU.

Sophomore Kristen Miles (London, Ont. / London Devillettes) picked up her 15th goal of the season, tallying the lone Colonial goal. Sophomores Ali Proodian (Canton, Mich. / Honeybaked U-19) and Kathryn Traynor (Toronto, Ont. / Toronto Jr. Aeros) notched assists on the score.

Wayne State took a page out of the Colonials play book, scoring early and often in the first period. The Warriors scored back-to-back, taking a commanding 2-0 lead midway through the first period, scoring at 11:16 and 14:05.

Robert Morris stopped the barrage momentarily with the Miles score at 19:03, closing out the first period with the score, 2-1.

The Warriors defense played a key role in the physical contest, holding the Colonials scoreless through the second and third periods. Melissa Boal added some insurance to the lead, hammering away her 25th goal of the season late in the second period at 16:28.

Wayne State out-shot the Colonials 39-21, while both teams had goose eggs on the power-play going 0-2.

Sophomore Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) played a tough game, making 36 saves on the afternoon.

Robert Morris concludes the regular season with a record of 11-21-2, while the team was 1-11-0 in College Hockey America play. The Colonials have the week to prepare as they go into the CHA Championship tournament as the 4 seed. RMU will play 1 Mercyhurst at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at the RMU Island Sports Center.
