Men's Hockey The CHN Team of the Week

Moon Township, Pa. - College Hockey News, an website devoted to college hockey, named the Robert Morris University men's hockey team their team of the week Wednesday night. It's the first time in the team's two-plus seasons that it has earned such an honor, wrapping up a week full of accolades for the Colonials.

Robert Morris went 3-0 last weekend, beating Princeton on the road on Monday before sweeping a College Hockey America series with then #16 Niagara to end the week. The Colonials outscored the Purple Eagles, 14-3 (7-1, 5-2), Friday and Saturday to improve to 11-13-1 on the season and 7-7-0 in the CHA.

In addition to the College Hockey News award, junior forward Sean Berkstresser (Apollo, Pa. / Pittsburgh Forge) was the InsideCollegeHockey.com National Player of the Week and the CHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The junior doubled his point total for the year last week with seven points in three games. He now has 14 points on four goals and 10 assists. The junior tied the team-record with four points in Friday's 7-1 win over Niagara. He added a goal and an assist versus Princeton and another assist in Saturday's rematch with the Purple Eagles.

Junior defenseman and co-captain Rob Cowan (Calgary, Alberta / Olds Grizzlys) also got in on the act earning the CHA Defensive Player of the Week award. Cowan had three points on a goal and two assists. His only goal was a length of the ice empty-netter on an assist from his younger brother, Rob Cowan (Calgary, Alberta / Olds Grizzlys) to cap the scoring in Saturday's 5-2 win over Niagara. The brother-to-brother connection was the first ever for the Colonials. The junior added an assist in each of the Niagara games as well.

Robert Morris hosts the first-place team in the CHA, Bemidji State, Friday and Saturday, February 9-10, at the RMU Island Sports Center. Both games start at 7:35 p.m.
