Avon, Ind. / Prestwick C.C. - The Robert Morris University women's golf team opened the spring portion of their 2006-07 schedule at the Butler Spring Invitational, finishing ninth in the nine-team field. The Colonials struggled with an opening round 375 team total, but cut 20 strokes from that score on the second day with a 355 team total.
Ball State won the event with a total score of 637, firing the low score on both days of the two-day, 36-hole event at Prestwick C.C. in Avon, Ind. Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne was second at 650, followed by Oakland (654), Loyola (662), IUPUI (664), Butler (667), Cleveland State (680), Marian (726) and Robert Morris (730).
Ball State's Kirsty O'Connor tied with teammate Sarah Windlan for medalist honors shooting 12-over par 156.
The Colonials top finishers were freshman Ashleigh Frieday (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) and sophomore Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) who both tied for 39th position. Frieday shot 95 in the opening round, and found 11 strokes the next day for a 84 and a two-day total of 179. Beikirch shot 92 and cut five strokes for an 87 in teh second round.
Junior Heather Mulvaney (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) was 43rd with round of 94 and 89 for a 183 total. Freshman Jacqueline Jurinko (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) tied for 46th (94-95=189) followed by sophomore Melissa Wenger (Middlebury, Ind. / Northridge) in 49th (97-95=192) and Sarah Davis (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) in 54th (108-100=208).
