Robert Morris Battles to 1-1 Tie With Quinnipiac

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex? The Robert Morris University men's soccer team battled Quinnipiac University to a 1-1 tie in a Northeast Conference match-up Friday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. The Colonials record moves to 2-12-3 overall and 0-5-2 in NEC play while Quinnipiac is now 8-4-3 and 3-2-1 in conference play.

Colonials senior keeper Matt Felice (Mississauga, Ontario / Phillip Pocock) tied his career record, stopping 14 shots in the game. He had 11 saves in the second half and overtime as RMU was outshot, 31-6.

Robert Morris scored on its first chance into the Quinnipiac end in the fifth minute. The Colonials got out of their own end quickly, finding senior Tyler Stanley (Kalispell, Mont. / Columbia Falls) in the midfield. Stanley fed the ball diagonally to freshman Matt Sheibly (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) coming down the right wing. Sheibly beat his defender to the inside, then struck a hard right-footed shot inside the far left post.

The Bobcats knotted the contest in the 80th minute on a Shane Recklet marker from 10-yards out. Graciano Brito settled the ball at the top of box and turned his left foot. He pushed the ball ahead to Recklet who touched his shot past Felice.

Neither team could tally in either of the two 10-minute overtimes despite 12 overtime shots by Quinnipiac and three from Robert Morris. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Freddy Hall stopped two shots.

The Colonials host Central Connecticut State this Sunday, November 2. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
