Box Score Niagara University, N.Y. ? The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team was defeated, 2-1, Friday night by the Niagara Purple Eagles in a College Hockey America match-up at the Dwyer Arena. With the loss, the Colonials (12-18-1, 2-7-0 CHA) are forced back into a tie with Niagara for third place in the CHA standings.
The Purple Eagles stuck first when Lisa Agozzino buried a pass from Marie Henriksen and Ashley Riggs on the power-play with just 2:58 left to go in the first period.
Robert Morris came back to tie the game midway through the second period. Junior Ali Proodian (Canton, Mich. / Honeybaked U-19) got the Colonials on the board when she beat Niagara goaltender Jill Zelonis on an unassisted play at 9:39.
The offense ran dry for Robert Morris from that point on as the Purple Eagles controlled the tempo, outshooting the Colonials, 21-15, through the second and third periods.
Niagara scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period. NU's Melanie Mills, who scored the game-tying goal against RMU back on Feb. 9 in a 3-2 overtime victory, notched her third goal of the season when she scored on a pass from Ashley Riggs at the 9:17 mark of the third period.
Junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) made her 13th straight start in goal for RMU, finishing the game with 26 stops in 60 minutes worth of work. Zelonis earned the win with 21 saves.
Niagara held the advantage in shots, 28-22, while converting, 1-4, on the power-play. RMU was shut-out on the extra-man, 0-4.
Both teams meet up again on Saturday, Feb. 23, for a 7:00 p.m., match-up at the Dwyer Arena.
