Caggiano Earns Regional and National Awards

Moon Township, Pa.?The accolades continue to come in for sophomore forward Kathleen Caggiano (Moon Township, Pa. / Moon Area) who led the Robert Morris University women's soccer team to the 2008 UNLV Rebel Classic Championship last weekend. After being named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Caggiano earned a spot on the Soccer Buzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week and was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

 

Caggiano had in every Colonial goal this weekend, finishing with seven points on three goals and an assist while leading RMU to the 2008 UNLV Rebel Classic Championship. Caggiano, who leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists, tallied both scores in a 2-1 win over 25th-ranked host UNLV Friday night. The loss was the first in 13 home games for the Rebels. The sophomore forward then tallied the game's opening goal and assisted on freshman Jess Sharik's (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin) game-winner in a 2-1 victory against Idaho Sunday morning. Caggiano has either scored or earned an assist on six of the team's nine goals this season.

 

Robert Morris defeated UNLV, 2-1, Friday night. The Rebels were ranked #25 by Soccer America and had not lost a home game in their previous 12 matches prior to the Colonials upset. RMU finished the tournament with a 2-1 over Idaho Sunday morning and became the only team to make it through the four-squad event unscathed.

 

Robert Morris travels to Bucknell for a 7:00 p.m. game Friday, September 26.
