Box Score

Detroit, Mich.  ? Jan. 17, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University Colonials dropped game two of the series, 7-3, to the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the City Sports Center. The Colonials had the Warriors deadlocked at the end of the second period, but a flood of goals by Wayne State in the third period gave them the victory.

Wayne State and Robert Morris battled through over 19 minutes in the first period, with neither team scoring. Finally, with less than 15 seconds left in the first, the Colonials got the early lead when junior Jessica Riley (Hamilton, Ontario / Stoney Creek Sabres) found teammate Mallory Giambra's (Rochester, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) rebound and tipped it into the net.

At the end of the first period Robert Morris outshot Wayne State nine to four. The Colonials were zero for three on the power-play, while the Warriors came out empty on their lone power-play opportunity of the period.

At 12:41 in the second period the Warriors tied things up when senior Melissa Boal scored her first of four goals on the night. Sam Poyton and Lindsay DiPietro added the assists.

Wayne State took advantage of a hooking infraction by the Colonials and increased its lead to 2-1 at 2:59 into the third period, with Boal scoring her second goal of the night. Poyton added the assist again for Boal, while Tina Vanderhoeven also added an assist.

Sophomore Sara O'Malley (Guelph, Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) evened things up for the Colonials at 2-2, skating past the Warrior defense to net her seventh goal of the season off a helper from sophomore Maria Stoa (Bloomington, Minn. / Eden Prairie).

Wayne State quickly notched three straight goals within five minutes to gain the 5-2 advantage. DiPietro started off the string of goals, getting the biscuit passed Colonial goalie Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) at 5:14, with Boal adding an assist for her third point of the game and Poyton adding her third consecutive helper of the game.

Boal lit the lamp for the Warriors twice within a one minute span, with her first score occurring at 8:47 and her second goal coming at 9:40 during an extra-man advantage. The goals marked her 22nd and 23rd goals of the season.

Freshman Kathryn Stack (Toronto, Ontario / Tornoton Jr. Aeros) closed in on the Warrior lead, slipping the puck past Warrior goalie Brian Delayne off a hard shot from the blue line during a power-play. Je. Riley and junior Jacki Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Burlington Barracudas) were credited with the assists.

At 15:26, Warrior Poyton increased the squad's lead to three again on an unassisted play for the games third consecutive power-play goal, scoring her fourth point of the game, 16th goal of the season and 100th career goal.

After the Colonials pulled their goalie, Wayne State wrapped things up with another goal at 18:18 by Veronique Laramee-Paquette to finalize the score 7-3.

The Colonials were outshot 26 to 19, with McLaughlin ending the game with 19 saves to Delayne's 16. The Warriors were successful on three of five power-plays, while the Colonials were one of seven on the extra man advantage.
