Colonials Upend Warriors in 1-0 Shutout on Senior Night

Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? Feb. 21, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University Colonials upended the Wayne State Warriors, 1-0, on Saturday at the RMU Island Sports Center in RMU's final home game of the season. En route to the Colonials' third shutout of the season, senior goalie Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) posted 51 saves for her fourth 50-plus save game of the season.

The Colonials and the Warriors played very strong defense right from the start, leaving things scoreless at the end of the first period. McLaughlin saw most of the action, stopping 19 shots, while Wayne State's goalie Lindsey Park tallied 10 saves.

Robert Morris got the lone goal of the game at 12:41 when Chelsea Walkland (Pittsford, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) and Kristen Miles (London, Ontario / London Devilettes) took off on a fast-break. Freshman Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) sent the puck through the neutral zone to Walkland, who found Miles on the far-side of the ice with only one defender. Miles ripped a shot right on target that landed in the top shelf of the net for her ninth goal of the season and third game-winning goal.

Wayne State put up a solid effort in the third period to tie things up, firing off 14 shots to the Colonials four, but RMU's blue line held off every shot and played relentless defense to ensure the win.

Wayne State finished the game with 51 shots, while Robert Morris rifled off 20. WSU's Park finished the game with 19 saves.

Robert Morris closes out its regular season next weekend in Niagara on Feb. 27-28, with both games starting at 7:00 p.m.
