Pair of Colonials Take Home CHA Honors

Moon Township, Pa.  ? Feb. 9, 2008 ? Robert Morris University junior Chelsea Walkland (Pittsford, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) and freshman Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) of the RMU Women's hockey team each took home CHA weekly honors for their performances against Sacred Heart this past weekend. Walkland was named CHA Offensive Player of the Week, for her first honor of the season, while Delaney captured her second CHA Rookie honor. The freshman has a total of three CHA weekly awards, as she was also named offensive player of the week earlier in the year.

Walkland recorded 10 points on the weekend, consisting of two goals and eight assists, which led the Colonials to a 7-2 win and a 12-0 sweep over the Sacred Heart Pioneers. On Friday night, she recorded the first goal of the game and recorded three assists throughout the rest of the game for a four point night. In the Colonials 12-0 win, Walkland recorded two new career highs with five assists and six points. Her impressive game started when she assisted on the Colonial's third goal of the game at 18:19 in the first-period. The junior then assisted on all three of RMU's goals in the second period. She finished off the night with one more assist and a goal in the final period. She is now tied for first on the team with 12 assists.

Delaney earned identical four point performances in RMU's 7-2 win and 12-0 shutout, which are career highs for the rookie. On night one she scored the second goal of the game, as well as a short-handed goal, while also assisting on two goals. On night two, she had a very similar performance, earning another two goals, with one being short-handed, and two assists. After earning eight points this weekend, she is now the Colonials all-time rookie leader in points and she set a new season point record with 27, while tying the season goals record with 15.

The Colonials return to action this weekend when they travel to Mercyhurst to take on the Lakers in a two-game series.
