Littlestown, Pa. / Quail Valley G.C. - The Robert Morris University women's golf team took eighth place at the nine-team Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational. The Colonials were led by junior Ashleigh Frieday (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) who took 27th position overall at the tournament.
Towson University laid claim to the team crown, posting a 942 total to beat second-place Fairleigh Dickinson by four strokes. Long Island tooke third with a 972 followed by Siena (976), Fairfield (982), Saint Francis (Pa.) (999), Mount St. Mary's (1,021), Robert Morris (1,057) and Central Connecticut State (1,070). Long Island's Natalie Desjardins best tamed the 5,803-yard, par-72 layout, posting a 225 total, including a one-under 71 in the second round of the the threee-round event.
Frieday opened the competition with a team tournament-best 79 in the opening round. She followed with an 86 and a 93 to finish with a total of 258. Senior Morgan Biekirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) took 30th, opening with a 92 before rebounding with rounds of 83 and 85 for a 260 total.
Senior Lauren Lancia (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) tied for 32nd by carding 94-85-89=268. She was followed by freshman Elizabeth Wenger (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer) in 37th (89-85-97=271) and junior Jacqueline Jurinko (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) in 47th (95-95-103=293).
