RMU Falls to Quinnipiac in NEC Tournament Quarterfinals

West Windsor, N.J. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team concluded its 2008-09 campaign at the Northeast Conference Tournament this past weekend at the Mercer County Tennis Center, earning a 4-0 win over No. 9 seed Wagner in an outbracket match before falling to No. 1 seed Quinnipiac in quarterfinal action, 4-0. The Colonials, who were the No. 8 seed in the tournament, also took part in a consolation match, falling to No. 5 seed Mount St. Mary's, 5-0.

RMU finishes its 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 3-19. 

Against the Seahawks, Robert Morris earned the doubles point thanks to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Freshman Ekaterina Rudneva (Leningrad, Russia / Leningrad) and senior Maria Olausson (Copenhagen, Denmark / Copenhagen Secondary) earned an 8-2 win over Britta Olsen and Svetlana Chirokikh in No. 2 doubles action, while senior Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemia Manor) and junior Emily Himmel (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) earned an 8-4 victory over Joanna Ciavarella and Allison Argust at the third flight. 

In singles play against Wagner, Rudneva downed Boyd, 6-2 and 6-0, at the No. 2 flight, while Olausson earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chirokikh at the fourth flight. Dalphon helped the Colonials advance to the NEC Tournament quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Argust at the No. 5 singles flight.

In quarterfinal action against the Bobcats, Adrienne Markison earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rudneva at the No. 2 singles, while Natalie Duckor defeated senior Libby Shaw (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) at the No. 3 flight, 6-0 and 6-0. Quinnipiac also took the doubles point and advanced to the semifinals when Kasey Rosenberger downed sophomore Sara Meier (Saint Mary's, Pa. / Elk County Christian) at the No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-1.
