Washington, D.C. / Mount Vernon Soccer Field-With the Robert Morris University women's soccer team visiting George Washington University in a non-conference game Friday afternoon, there was never a doubt that the Colonials were going to win. Just which set of Colonials was a more difficult question to answer.
After 104 minutes, Robert Morris sophomore Ayana Davis (Mt. Laurel, N.J. / Holy Cross) provided the answer to the second question. Davis found herself all alone behind the George Washington goalkeeper while receiving a header by sophomore Jess Sharik (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin). Davis easily put the ball on net, lifting RMU to a 3-2 win and a record of 2-2. GW falls to 2-3-1.
George Washington was an unkind host, taking the lead in the 24th minute when Molly Bruh found Brittany Eger open in the box for an easy goal and a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Rachel Sebbens (Irwin, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) tied the game in the 33rd minute with the first of her two goals. Sebbens' shot from the corner of the box hooked into the far side netting after she took a pass from senior Daneen Stevenato (North York, Ontario / Newtonbrook).
After haltime, Misa Eiritz gave GW a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute by pouncing on a loose ball in front of the goal and putting it home. Again Sebbens had an answer. This time she used her head, burying a cross from Sharik into the bottom corner of the net to tie the game with just over 15 minutes left in regulation.
The host Colonials held the edge in shots, 17-13, but the visiting Colonials led in corner kicks, 8-4. RMU freshman goalie Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) finished with eight saves. Lindsey Rowe had seven for the hosts.
Robert Morris returns to action at Georgetown on Sunday, September 13, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
