Frieday Sets Record At Ball State Cardinal Classic

Muncie, Ind. / The Players Club - Senior Ashleigh Frieday (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) shot the lowest round in team history in the second round of the Ball State Cardinal Classic, helping lead the Colonials to a 15th place finish at the event.

Frieday fired a one-over par 73 at the 6,248-yard layout at The Players Club. Coupled with her opening round 79, Frieday tied for 19th and broke into the top-20 for the second straight tournament. the senior is playing the best golf of her career, twice setting career bests last weekend at Bucknell before posting her 73 on Sunday. Frieday is leading the team with a 78.4 stroke average this season.

Eastern Michigan won the tournament finishing 15 over par at 591. They were led by Emily Podzielinski who shot three-under par 141, besting Grand Valley State's Allie Tyler by one stroke. Ball State was second (598) followed by Grand Valley State (599), Xavier (602) and Indiana State (613) rounding out the top five squads.

Sophomore Cassie Stein (Lewiston, N.Y. / Nichols School) shot 86-79=165 to tie for 61st among the field of 91 players. Sophomore Elizabeth Wenger (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer) careded a 79 before posting a second round 89 to finish 70th with a 168 total. Freshman Tess Wolfe (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) was 76th by turning in 87-85=172 followed by senior Sarah Davis (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) in 88th after rounds of 91-97=188.
