Long Island Trumps Robert Morris, 1-0, In Season Finale

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex-The Robert Morris University women's soccer team was served a trick by Long Island in a Northeast Conference Halloween match-up Sunday afternoon. An eighth minute Long Island goal was the difference in a 1-0 contest.

The Blackbirds (14-2-3, 8-1-1 NEC), who locked up the NEC regular season title, took advantage of their first real chance of the game in the eight minute. A pass from Caitlin Meadows put Ariana Calderon in an open spot just inside the box. Calderon deftly placed her shot high over RMU sophomore keeper Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) for the game's lone score.

The Colonials best opportunity of the game came in the 20th minute when Katie Austin (Dallastown, Pa. / Dallastown) beat the Blackbird defense to the right side of the box on a long ball. But coming away from net, Austin tried to turn and fire, but her effort skidded wide of the left post.

Olin kept the game close, turning away a Kayleigh Morgan volley from eight yards out in the 25th minute. With just over a minute left in the first half, the sophomore netminder redirected a Meadows header from point blank range.

Olin finished with five saves. Jessica Sexton had two saves for the Long Island as the Blackbirds held a 15-4 shot advantage.
