Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey team became the second different Colonial in as many weeks to be named the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week in a league release Monday afternoon.
St. Louis' honor, the first weekly recognition of her career, comes on the heels of classmate Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) earning her second CHA Rookie of the Week award of the season as Imbrogno grabbed the title last week. With St. Louis' award, the Colonials have now claimed CHA Rookie of the Week honors in three of the seven weeks in which they have played.
St. Louis, a defenseman, earned the distinction after scoring her first collegiate goal when she received a pass from sophomore Dayna Newsom (Oakville, Ontario / Oakville Ice) and ripped a slap shot from the blue line at the 1:14 mark of the third period. The moment may have even been more noteworthy for St. Louis since she beat the nation's best to so.
St. Louis scored against the unanimous No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers and goaltender Alex Rigsby, who is tied for first in the nation in winning percentage, to light the lamp for the first time in her career. She became only the fourth freshman to score a goal against Wisconsin all season and also blocked three Badger shot attempts for the weekend.
St. Louis' inaugural score was also one of the 27 shots that Robert Morris fired at the Badger net Friday. That total by the Colonials was the highest number of shots allowed by top-ranked Wisconsin in any game this season.
Imbrogno received the award last week after registering her second consecutive multi-point game by tallying the game-clinching goal and an assist to lead RMU to a 3-1 victory in its CHA home opener, Friday, Nov. 12.
Robert Morris will conclude its six-game homestand this weekend by hosting Maine for a pair of games at the RMU Island Sports Center, Friday, Nov. 26, and Saturday, Nov. 27. The Colonials will look to extend their six-game winning streak over the Black Bears when the two squads hit the ice at 7:05 p.m. Friday evening.
