Kissimmee, Fla. - In day two of play at the Rebel Spring Games, the Robert Morris University softball team once again earned a split decision in two early afternoon contests. In the first match-up, the Colonials emerged victorious with a, 3-2, win over LaSalle in eight innings. In game two, Robert Morris was defeated by St. Louis University in a 4-2 setback.
Game One - Robert Morris vs. LaSalle
LaSalle took a one run lead in in the top of the third inning and extended the edge to two in the fourth as the Explorers captured a quick 2-0 advantage.
However, the Colonials would even the game with a pair in the bottom of the sixth when Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) led off the frame with a double. Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland) would then produce an RBI single to score Dubovec. After Kayla Crooks (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brashear) was hit by a pitch, Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour) then drove her in for the game-tying score.
RMU finally broke the deadlock and snatched the win in the bottom of the eighth as Capp brought in the winning run with a fielder's choice.
Sophomore Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) earned her second straight win, improved her record to 2-3. She struck out 15 batters and allowed a total of eight hits.
Game Two - Robert Morris vs. St. Louis
After a come from behind win earlier in the day, the Colonials looked to do it once more after the Billikens put up tallies in the first, third and fifth frames to push them ahead, 3-0.
Facing the three-run deficit, Robert Morris capitalized on two St. Louis errors to pull back within one run. The two-run fifth inning allowed the Colonials to grab a pair without recording a single hit.
However, the Billikens recovered quickly and tagged Dubovec for one more run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the, 4-2, SLU triumph.
Junior hurler, Dubovec, picked up the loss and allowed three earned runs while striking out four.
Robert Morris (3-6 ; 0-0 NEC) will face the University of Pennsylvania and Detroit Mercy on Thursday as the squad closes out its annual southern swing.
