Robert Morris Bows To St. Bonaventure, 76-50, In WNIT

Olean, N.Y. / Reilly Center -The Robert Morris University women's basketball team had lost just one game by more than 10 points all season. The final game of the 2009-10 was indicative of the season that the Colonials put together. Robert Morris finished with a 23-9 record after losing at St. Bonaventure, 76-50, Thursday night in the opening round of the Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament.

The Colonials traded blows early with the Bonnies (23-9), cutting an early six-point deficit to two points when Gimeno tallied back-to-back baskets to make it and 18-16 contest with 11:34 to play. The rest of the half, however, would belong to St. Bonaventure.

The host squad finished the half on a 22-9 run, taking advantage of nine RMU turnovers. The Bonnies had 14 points of Colonials giveaways to push the margin to 40-25 at the break. Jessica Jenkins had 13 points in the opening 20 minutes, knocking down three three's while Tiara Jackson, who didn't have a trey all year, went 2-for-2 to add six points.

RMU sophomore Mary Durojaye (London, England / English National U-20) opened the second half with a quick basket. The next 10 points belonged to St. Bonaventure and put the game out of reach, 50-27, with 14:39 left to play. The Bonnies pushed the lead to as many as 32 points en route to the 76-50 win.

Freshman Vega Gimeno-Martinez (Valencia, Spain / Spanish National U-20) led the Colonials with 15 points and junior Bianca Hooten (Canton, Ohio / Canton-McKinley (Bowling Green)) tacked on 12 points of the bench. They were the only two RMU players in double-digits. Senior Angela Pace (Westchester, N.Y. / Woodlands (Monroe College)) had nine points and Durojaye finished with eight points.

Four-time All-Atlantic 10 selection Dana Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points, going 11-21 from the floor. Jenkins added 22 points knocking down 5-of-10 three-balls. The Bonnies shot 54.5 percent (30-55) from the floor and 50.0 percent (8-of-16) on three-pointers.

The Colonials knocked down 39.6 percent (19-48) of their shots.
