Timko and Bryson Earn NEC Accolades

Moon Township, Pa. - Sophomores Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) and Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) of the Robert Morris University softball team were honored by the Northeast Conference on Monday afternoon.  Timko was named NEC Player of the Week, while Bryson captured the NEC Pitcher of the Week title after the duo led the Colonials to a 4-0 record last week.

Timko currently owns a nine-game hitting streak and leads Robert Morris and the Northeast Conference with the highest batting average (.469). The sophomore made it on base in 13 straight trips to the plate, none by error. Timko went 10-for-12 last week against Youngstown State and Saint Francis (PA), leading the Colonials to a 4-0 showing. The second-year outfielder also drove in six runs and scored five of her own.

Bryson, a member of the 2009 NEC All-Second Team, picked up her first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis (PA) Apr. 2.  She also pitched in an eight-inning, 3-2 victory over Youngstown State two days prior to the shutout. With the topping of the Red Flash, the sophomore tallied her third-straight win as a starter. Also notching a combined 24 strikeouts in the two games and giving up no walks, this is Bryson's Pitcher of the Week award in 2010.

Timko and Bryson will take the field on Wednesday afternoon when the Colonials welcome the Zips of Akron for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. at the North Athletic Complex.
