Colonials Drop NEC Opener to Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-1

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex-The Robert Morris University women's soccer team skid hit three games and extended into the Northeast Conference portion of the schedule following a 4-1 loss to Saint Francis (Pa.) at North Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon. The Colonials slip to 3-6-1 and 0-1 in NEC play while the Red Flash improve to 7-2-1 and 1-0 in league games.

A back-and-forth first half saw Saint Francis strike first in the 27th minute. Barbara Maros de Carvalho took the ball hard the right sideline, striking a low cross eight yards out in the box. Codi Bixler, who had just entered as a reserve, put the ball home with a shot back across the goal face.

Just 90 seconds later, the Red Flash struck again. This time, a blast from Tesa McKibben's bounced down and hard off the crossbar, but Stephanie Boulter pounced on the rebound. She shot low and inside the left post before sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) could recover from the initial drive.

The third and fourth goals of the contest were nearly identical, and in each case it was Maros de Carvalho feeding McKibben from the left corner 10 yards from net. The first of the two was finished with a foot while the second went in via a header.

The Colonials lone goal of the game came in the 85th minute when Rachel Sebbens (Irwin, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) found space inside the right post from 19 yards out. Brianna Bell (Irwin, Pa. / Hempfield) earned the assist.

Robert Morris travels to Mount St. Mary's for a 5:00 p.m. contest Friday, October 1.
