Miami, Fla. / FIU Soccer Stadium-The Robert Morris University women's soccer team finished a two-game swing through the Sunshine State with a 1-1 record following a 2-1 loss to Florida International Sunday afternoon. The Colonials slip to 2-2-1 on the season while the Panthers even their season mark at 3-3.
Florida International took early command of the game when Nicole DiPerna found the corner of the net from 18 yards out in the 12th minute on a nifty pass from Kassandra Sorzano. Just 10 minutes later, Chelsea Leiva scored her fourth marker of the season to make it a 2-0 contest.
That, however, was when the skies opened up, delaying the game for two-and-a-half hours as strong storms and lightning kept the teams on the sidelines.
When play finally resumed, junior Rachel Sebbens (Irwin, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) hit senior Jennifer Tobar (Bradenton, Fla. / Lakewood Ranch) at the top of the box. Tobar let loose with a shot from 20-yards out that flew over the fingers of the keeper and into the net for her second score of the year in the 30th minute.
That score was the last of the game for either team. Robert Morris sophomore Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) set a new career-high with 11 saves in the loss.
The Colonials now take part in the Niagara University Tournament by taking on the host Purple Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 10.
