Imbrogno Wins Back-to-Back CHA Awards

Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey team was named the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week and for the fifth time this season in the league's weekly release Monday.

With this recognition, Imbrogno ties the RMU record for most weekly CHA awards won in a single season as she matches former Colonial standout and United States Olympian Brianne McLaughlin's mark from the 2006-07 season.

Imbrogno had previously earned the distinction of being the first Colonial to collect at least three CHA weekly rookie awards and is one of three active Colonials to have claimed such honors on multiple occasions.

This most recent acknowledgement of her strong play comes after Imbrogno led Robert Morris to an unbeaten CHA weekend on the road. She started off the series by registering her second consecutive multi-point performance when she collected a goal and an assist during a nine-minute span of the second period to break a 2-2 tie and give RMU a two-goal advantage. It was her fifth multi-point performance of the season and marked the second occasion in which she has produced back-to-back multi-point games against CHA foes. The following afternoon Imbrogno assisted on the goal that evened the score and began RMU's rally that secured a come-from-behind victory for the Colonials.

Imbrogno, who was also previously named the CHA Rookie of the Month for December, is currently riding a six-game point streak, which ties sophomore Dayna Newsom's (Oakville, Ontario / Oakville Ice) mark from earlier this season for the second-longest in program history. Imbrogno leads the team in points (15), goals (7) and assists (8) in the team's 13 conference contests thus far and also ranks among the top 10 nationally in points per game for rookies overall.

Imbrogno has also already began to rewrite the RMU record books as she currently sits among the top 10 in points (23, T-eighth), assists (14, T-sixth) and shots (100, fourth) in Colonial single-season history.

It is the sixth occurrence this season that a Robert Morris student-athlete has been garnered with CHA rookie honors as defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) earned the distinction Nov. 22 after she became just the fourth freshman up to that point to score a goal against No. 1 Wisconsin.

The 23 points thus far place Imbrogno second in RMU history in points by a freshman as she trails only current junior Brianna Delaney's (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) total.

Robert Morris will look to extend its three-game unbeaten streak as it returns to Pittsburgh this weekend for its final home games of the season. The Colonials will play host to Syracuse in a crucial two-game set with CHA seeding on the line, Friday Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19.
