Colonials, Wenger Third At NEC Championships

Daytona Beach, Fla. / LGPA International - The Robert Morris University women's golf team held on for a third-place finish at the 2011 Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championships held at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The finish matches last year's third-place showing and are the best finishes at the NEC title event in team history.

Junior Elizabeth Wenger (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer) entered the day tied for first-place before eventually finishing third in the 54-hole event. Wenger's showing is tied for the best individual finish by a Colonial at the NEC Championship one season after Ashleigh Frieday (2006-10) took third in the 2010 NEC Championship.

Wenger followed up her program record 71 with a round of 80 Saturday. She managed one-birdie in the final round, that coming on the 340-yard par-4 fourth hole. Her 230 total - after rounds of 79 and 71 - put her five strokes back of Long Island's Anna Palsson who took medalist honors.

Sophomore Jenna Rinker (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) missed out on a top-10 finish by one stroke with a 244 total. Her final round 80 was her best 18-hole score of the event after she posted an 82 in each of the first two days of action at the 6,065-yard, par-72 Legends Course.

Sophomore Tess Wolfe (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) shot 85 in every single round of the 54-hole tournament, finishing with a 255 total that tied her for 23rd place overall. Freshman Alee Everman (Dayton, Ohio / Centerville) finished tied for 25th as she accumulated 258 strokes in three rounds after a final round 85. Freshman Annie Bozich (Aliquippa, Pa. / Center) cut two strokes from each of her first two rounds to shot a 90 Saturday and put together a 274 total, putting her 43rd overall.
