MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team and head coach Katy Phillips announced the promotion of graduate assistant Kari Morrison to assistant coach, Monday.
"I am excited to promote Kari to our first assistant position," Phillips said. "Kari's contribution with our midfielders and our goalkeepers has been outstanding. She has been loyal and dedicated to the vision and goals of our program and is well deserving of this promotion."
Morrison spent the 2011 season with the Colonials as the team's graduate assistant, working primarily with the Colonials' goalies but saw her role expand as the season went on. She helped the Colonials to their first ever postseason berth in 2011 and a second-place finish in the Northeast Conference. The Colonials ranked third in the NEC in goals-against average while leading the conference in caused turnovers and ranking second in ground balls.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, Morrison started three years between the pipes for the Hokies. She earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team honors in three consecutive seasons. On the field, Morrison ranks as Virginia Tech's all-time leader in ground balls and she led the nation in regular-season saves in 2008 with 208 stops. She also sits second in the Hokie record book in career saves and set the Virginia Tech single-season record for ground balls in 2008 with 65. Following her playing career, she spent a season as an undergraduate assistant coach with Virginia Tech.
Morrison graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010 with a degree in human nutrition, foods and exercise.
