Robert Morris University men's golf team opened the 2011 season at the Maryland
Intercollegiate men's golf tournament played Monday and Tuesday at River Marsh
Golf Club in Cambridge, Md. The Colonials finished 12th at the 13
team event.
Winthrop won the tournament by shooting 23-under as a
team with an 829 total. Pennsylvania was second with an 840 and Georgetown was
third (844) followed by Old Dominion (850), Loyola (Md.) (853), Maryland (855),
Bethune-Cookman (876), Seton Hall (881), Mount St. Mary's (883), Towson (885),
Robert Morris (895) and California (Pa.) (904).
Junior Brock Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) fired a
one-under par 70 in the second round en route to a tie for 40th place. He opened with a 76 and closed with a 75 on the 6,801-yard, par-71
course. His second round score was the fifth sub-par round of his collegiate
career.
Freshman Ryan Prokay (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) and
junior Max Cahn (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) each finished with rounds of 71 to tie
for 61st. Prokay carded scores of 78 and 79 in Monday's play to
total a 228. Cahn posted a 73 and 84 before recovering 13 strokes in the final
round.
Junior Brandon Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) saw
two of his three rounds count to the team score as he placed 64th with a 229 total (76-74-79). Freshman Bo Lustig (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon)
was one stroke and one place back. He finished with his best round of the
event, a 73. He also carded a 74 and an 83.
