Moon Township, Pa. - Sept. 15, 2011 - The Robert Morris field hockey team returns this weekend, kicking off the final leg of the team's five-game home stand. The Colonials open the weekend on Friday against No. 15 Ohio at 2 p.m. before hosting Lindenwood on Saturday at 11 a.m. and facing Liberty on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Joe Walton Stadium will also play host to a neutral-site game on Friday between Liberty and Lindenwood, starting at 11 a.m.
The Colonials (2-4 overall, 0-0 NEC) are coming off the season's home-opening weekend, in which the team split a pair of games with Colgate and Lock Haven. Freshmen Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) and Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) sit atop Robert Morris' stat sheet with eight points apiece (two goals, four assists). Meanwhile, freshman Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia / Westfield Sports) earned this week's NEC Rookie of the Week award and the Colonials' first-ever NEC Player of the Week honor after notching a pair of goals over the weekend.
Ohio (6-0, 0-0 MAC) is off to the best start in program history and currently sits at No. 15 in the national poll. The Bobcats are outscoring opponents 21-4 on the season with Jessica Jue leading the charge. Jue's 12 points (three goals, six assists) leads the Bobcats while Taylor Brown has collected five goals for Ohio in 2011.
Lindenwood (0-2, 0-0) is coming off a scrimmage against Missouri that the Lions won 3-2 after dropping a pair of 4-1 games to Mercyhurst and Hendrix at the beginning of the month. Maria Schafer and Kayleigh Harrower lead the Lions with one goal each.
In its inaugural season, Liberty (2-2, 0-0) heads into Colonial country riding a two-game winning streak. The Flames picked up the first win in program history with a 3-0 win over Marywood last Saturday and added another victory on Sept. 11 when Liberty defeated Christopher Newport 2-1. Helen Doolittle leads the Flames with six points (three goals) in 2011.
